Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso has been left fielding awkward questions about Kylian Mbappe’s latest injury.
The France captain isn’t available for the Supercopa in Saudi Arabia, and reports in Spain have claimed it’s a relapse from knee pain that’s been bothering him for several weeks.
However, those same reports also add that he may have played through the pain to equal Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 59 goals in a calendar year for Real Madrid.
Asked about the claims, Alonso responded: “No, the situation and the decisions being made depend on the moment; that’s how you have to interpret it.
“We’re here, we want him back as soon as possible; it was too soon for this match. Now we’re thinking about the semi-final.”
