It has been revealed that Vinicius Jr hosted a Ballon d’Or celebration party the night before finding out he’d lost to Rodri.
Relevo claim that the Real Madrid megastar held a celebration of his impending win on October 27 with friends, only to find out hours later that he wouldn’t be picking up the gong.
A group of Madrid directors arrived at his house the following morning and told him they’d received a leak, which resulted in the entirety of the club refusing to travel to Paris for the ceremony.
Conversely, Rodri held his own party after winning the award, but also did it in Madrid as a native of the city who previously played for Real’s rivals Atletico Madrid.
However, that bash was also controversial, with video leaking from one of the attendees of the group singing ‘Vini Ciao’.
Responding to the clip, Rodri said it was unfair it was released and claims it wasn’t disrespectful.
“People have to understand that rivalry is healthy… It was a private party. If we put a camera in our houses…
“At no time did I disrespect anyone. I deeply respect Vinicius and Real Madrid. Why would I need a message from him? All the clubs should congratulate me and they don’t. I care about my family and my club. I wouldn’t have done it that way.”
Rodri also gave his thoughts on Madrid refusing to attend, and said: “It didn’t hurt me at all. Once I’ve won it, it’s my moment.
“The last thing I think about is the people who didn’t come, quite the opposite.
“For the spectacle and the trophy, it’s better that the best in the world were there, for the glamour, for the children. It would have been great.”
Asked why he thought he won, he added: “I think I won it for consistency, it is the most difficult thing in football.
“It is not to give myself credit, when I have not been better I have said so. I think that the most consistent player of the season was me.
“I am not here to say whether I deserved it or not. But I can say that I never thought I could repeat a season like last year.”
