Spain’s final training session before the World Cup final was called off.
The session was scheduled for 11:00am in New Jersey but safety protocols in the United States stopped it from taking place.
A thunderstorm hit the Melanie Lane Training Ground with the team forced to undertake ‘indoor activation activities’.
Argentina’s training session went ahead despite also being in New York state.
The Spanish federation wrote in a statement: “The training of the Spanish National Team on the fields of the Melanie Lane Training Ground facilities in New Jersey has been suspended following the United States Storm Safety Protocol.
“The players are having an activation session in the indoor facilities.”
Argentina kicked off their training just 30 minutes later, seven kilometres away at the Red Bull Performance Centre in New York.
They were similarly disrupted by the warning, but were able to start half and hour later than planned.
Spain, meanwhile, had a window from 12:00 to 13:00, but chose not to use it as to not disrupt the rest of their schedule.
