Michael Olise’s brutal Champions League interview has prompted a response from Bayern Munich’s bosses.
Bayern beat Bodo/Glimt 5-0 on Thursday and after it was the Frenchman‘s turn to rotate in for media duties.
DAZN instantly regretted the choice as Olise gave blunt one-word answers to questions from their reporter.
The interview quickly went viral and split opinion, with one half blaming the reporter’s poor questioning, and the other calling Olise outright rude given his huge salary.
Kompany pleased Olise went viral
Speaking ahead of a Bundesliga match against Elversberg, head coach Vincent Kompany said: “May I ask a question to the journalist who asked the question? Aren’t you pleased that this has now gone viral?
“If he answers all the questions like I do, nothing will go viral.
“Sponsors simply want people to talk about him. And when Michael is there, people talk about the sponsors.
“Let’s be honest: Michael’s style is of no value to any sponsor or journalist. Not at all. And everyone enjoys it. We shouldn’t mix things up too much.”
Bayern says it’s not his style
Giving his take, sporting director Max Eberl added: “Michael is someone who wants to play football. And the off-field stuff leaves him rather cold.
“That’s just not his style, and not everyone is the same.
“If we look at social media, he’s celebrated. Because people simply say: He’s a footballer, he should play football, he should have fun. And the kids identify with that more than perhaps we do.
“I prefer him to play the way he does and be named player of the match three times in five games.”
The highlights (or lowlights) of the painful interview saw Olise asked how his wonder goal felt and he responded: “I dunno.”
Pressed on his method, he added: “I shoot and it goes in or it doesn’t go in.”
The reporter then said: “You make it very hard for me to do an interview, what makes you happy, what makes you laugh?”
Olise replied: “I dunno,” and the interview was quickly ended.
