Aside from winning, the one thing that’s defined Bayern Munich over the years has been iconic wingers, and the next pair are living up to that reputation.
Bayern decimated Wolfsburg 8-1 in the Bundesliga to ease in on another title win and Luis Diaz and Michael Olise were once again the stars of the show.
Diaz scored and got two assists while Olise got two goals and an assist putting the pair on nine goals each for the season.
They’re now already being compared to former Bayern treble winning duo Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, and sporting director Max Eberl is happy to play up his fine work in the transfer market.
“When I see Michael’s position and moves, he resembles Arjen Robben,” he said post-match.
“We were just talking about it in the locker room: he’s kind of like the new Robben we have. Delicate, elegant, creative.
“And with Lucho on the other side, we have the Franck Ribery type, the creative chaos-maker. Our wing duo is exceptional.”
Head coach Vincent Kompany attempted to play things down slightly, adding: “I wouldn’t compare them to Robben and Ribery yet.
“I have too much respect for those two wingers, against whom I’ve played.
“I think they have to find their own path and continue as they are.
“If they win the big titles again at some point, then maybe we can talk about this topic. But not at all right now.”
Giving more praise to Olise was Manuel Neuer, who said: “The important thing is that he enjoys playing football here.
“We as a team try to give him that, and he himself is very creative and can create situations.
“He has a lot of fun with our team, especially when Jamal [Musiala] comes back.
“He gets along very well with Jamal. He’s a very important factor in our game.”
