The Golden Tapir is back out, this time for Roma legend Francesco Totti.
The infamous polystyrene award is given to public figures in Italy by TV show Striscia la notizia after they’ve embarrassed themselves.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the last football representative to be humiliated by the show after Milan were knocked out of the Champions League by PSV, but Totti‘s dishonour is worse.
The 48-year-old has decided to attend a gala in Moscow, Russia, which is hosted by a gambling magazine.
Given Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the money grab has gone down terribly, and Totti has tried to defend it.
“I am not a politician or a diplomat, but a man of sport who promotes his values worldwide,” he said.
“I have always done that: first as a footballer and now in a new role.
“For years, I have visited all the countries I am invited to talk about sports, and I would have no problem traveling to Kyiv for the same purposes.”
However, Totti wasn’t so keen to defend himself when the Tapir came his way, refusing to comment after geting out of his car, which was parked on a zebra crossing.
