Roberto De Zerbi had no sympathy at all for goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli after another Marseille horror show.
The Argentine followed up a questionable display against Liverpool with errors in a 2-2 draw against Paris FC, and his coach was asked if the shot-stopper is lacking confidence.
“I don’t know if Rulli, at 32, lacks confidence; that’s a serious problem for him,” De Zerbi responded.
“I think he only made two mistakes, like we all do, but I don’t think it’s a lack of confidence.
“Otherwise, it would be serious, because if Rulli, who is 32, loses confidence because of two mistakes… then we should be worried.”
The points dropped pile more pressure on De Zerbi, but RMC Sport pundit Walid Acherchour thinks it’s right to single out players.
“At one point, he was the best goalkeeper in Ligue 1,” he said. “How did we go from that status to a guy who kills his team every one game out of two?
“In the Champions Trophy, in Lille, Toulouse, Nantes, Bruges, against PFC and Union SG, he’s the one who lets you down. The credit of the leading goalkeeper will run out at some point!”
Targeting other players, he added: “Sorry, the performances of Murillo, Traoré, and Gouiri have been disastrous. It’s unacceptable at this level.”
