Roberto De Zerbi is not a happy man.
The Marseille head coach threatened to quit the club after defeat to Auxerre on Friday, and apparently things were even more brutal in the dressing room beforehand.
OM fell 3-1 to the newly promoted side in Ligue 1, and with a win for PSG on Saturday, they’re now nine points off a title race it looked like they may well be competing in.
L’Equipe report that once the players were back in the dressing room he went on a furious rant.
“You humiliated me, you humiliated our club in front of our fans,” De Zerbi is quoted as saying. “You lacked balls!
“Football is my life, 24 hours a day. Medhi Benatia knows it, Pablo Longoria knows it. I didn’t come here for the money. What changes my life is feeling rewarded every day and giving people what they expect.”
De Zerbi also reportedly told the players he rejected Manchester United for them.
“This is the contract they offered me, a contract for several seasons, with a salary you can’t imagine,” he said.
“This is where I refused to go, because I put my passion before money. I came to Marseille for the passion.”
