Trent Alexander-Arnold is facing yet more competition at Real Madrid who are signing one of the game’s best right-backs.
The defensively-limited full-back failed to impress in his debut LaLiga season despite some moments of brilliance in attack.
He also had to battle with club captain Dani Carvajal, a fight he unconvincingly won.
Yet for the 2026/27 season, he will have even more serious competition.
Despite Real Madrid’s elections taking place, Gazzetta dello Sport claim that a deal has been done for Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries.
The Dutch defender has a very affordable €25million release clause in his contract, available only for the month of July.
He’s already agreed to depart with his agents, and has informed Inter of the news.
Dumfries played the fewest games of his career at Inter last season, and the Italian side wouldn’t be too frustrated to see him go for a fee, despite being widely regarded as one of the world’s best right backs.
Furthermore, Jose Mourinho already tried to sign him while at Manchester United.
Trent wasn’t better than Carvajal
The news comes with Trent’s debut season under increased criticism after he missed out on England’s World Cup squad.
Former Madrid man Juanfran Moreno has been the latest to call out his performances.
“It hasn’t gone down well with the fans, and it’s gone down badly with me,” he said. “I imagine it hasn’t been easy for Dani Carvajal either.
“Not because Dani wasn’t playing, but because in the end Trent was playing and wasn’t performing better than Dani could with confidence and playing time.”
“For me, Dani is indispensable. In a locker room, certain players are sometimes very important, and I think Dani is that player.”
