Ousmane Dembele’s sideshow act to Kylian Mbappe is causing problems in the French media.
Dembele is the reigning Ballon d’Or winner and a back-to-back Champions League winner with PSG, making him the best player in the world in many people’s eyes.
Yet for France, where Mbappe is captain, his importance seems to be diminished, moving him further away from goal for the Real Madrid man.
Among those annoyed by the tactical adjustment is famous French rapper and PSG fan Rohff.
Anger over Mbappe vs Dembele
He wrote on social media: “This makes my stomach churn.
“The French team is lucky enough to have a Ballon d’Or winner who has two Champions League titles with his club…
“They treat him with contempt, relegating him to the role of a lackey serving Mbappe when he has absolutely nothing to envy him for. It’s unbearable!
“If Ousmane played in his natural position, he would make you forget about Mbappe, I swear!
“With the added benefit of pressing and tracking back in defence, creating space, but oh well, there’s Deschamps’ favourite…”
He continued: “They denied him the red carpet, the royal suite, the king-size bed, and even the spa and room service; they didn’t give him restaurant vouchers.
“The best attack in the world, the two-time European champions forced to play for little Kiki… it’s too much.
“He’s at the point where he considers himself lucky to have any playing time at all, the time it takes him to find his mark and make the other guy shine before he’s substituted with 15 minutes left.”
Mbappe loves the cameras
Rohff also took aim at the general approach to Mbappe’s status.
He said: “At the end of the match, the camera will only show us close-ups of the other guy and his superb act of feigned humility, frustrated by his two trophyless years at Real Madrid and PSG’s two stars (titles without him).
“He’ll be the all-powerful arm-puller who has managed to outshine N’Golo Kante, who knows full well he’s being filmed, taking all the credit and unfairly basking in the spotlight.
“Ousmane is good and professional; he understands the importance of a World Cup.
“He’ll step aside and sacrifice himself for the team, but it’s unfair.
“I don’t know about you, but this whole circus is unbearable for me, even if we win for the moment.
“So, frankly, they’re ignoring the last Ballon d’Or winner in history.”
