Kylian Mbappe had some defending to do as the French media decided to question his less from ideal season.
The France captain left PSG in the lurch last summer, joining Real Madrid for free and his old side reeling.
However, PSG turned the tables in dramatic fashion, winning their first Champions League as part of a European treble.
This all happened while Mbappe only picked up two minor honours, the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Intercontinental Cup.
The striker was asked about his ‘blank’ season in Madrid, and snapped back at a reporter.
“A blank season? Are you sure? What is a blank season, what is a blank season?” he said.
“Do you watch the matches? We won two titles, that’s the importance of words.
“We missed out on important titles, but this year was enriching. PSG won the Champions League without me, it doesn’t affect me and that’s a good thing.
“I’m a little more in the eye of the storm, which is good. I’ve reversed a lot of trends in my career, a lot of things were pinned on me and I managed to get them off my chest.”
Asked if he has any regrets over his PSG departure, or even if it just came a year too early, he responded: “Did I leave too soon? No. My story was over, it had to end.
“I have no bitterness, I had reached the end of the road. I would have tried everything, it’s just fate that meant it had to happen without me.”
On the Ballon d’Or he added: “Would I vote for Dembélé? Yes. Is there really any need to explain? We talk about Yamal and Dembélé, I vote for Dembélé… It’s very clear!”
