It turns out that PSG may be getting a fee for Kylian Mbappe after all.
The Ligue 1 champions said goodbye to arguably their greatest-ever player with a Coupe de France victory on May 25th, and now those who aren’t bored to death by the whole affair are awaiting his signing at Real Madrid.
Paris reportedly turned down a world record €220million offer from Madrid for Mbappe in 2021, knowing they would lose him for far less the following summer.
However, in 2022, Mbappe stunned Real president Florentino Perez by opting to stay in France and signing a new deal with a whopping €80m bonus.
Now, though, that deal has expired, and with Mbappe’s future in his own hands, he will be the next Galactico.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi was publically and privately furious at Mbappe for running his contract down, dropping him from a pre-season tour of Japan and threatening to leave him in the reserves for the season.
However, none of that provoked the striker into signing new terms, and PSG won’t receive a fee for the most expensive asset they’ve ever had.
There’s more to the affair than that, though, with L’Equipe reporting that PSG have decided not to pay Mbappe his April salary, and they’ve also refused to fork out the €80m contractual signing bonus from his 2022 deal.
The situation promises to get very messy once Mbappe is in Spain, and legal action could well follow.
