Noa Lang has opened up on his gruesome thumb injury for the first time while training with the Netherlands.
The Galatasaray winger went off the pitch while facing Liverpool at Anfield in the Champions League and caught his thumb on the advertising hoarding.
He collapsed to the ground with blood pouring from his hand, and was later captured being stretchered through the mixed zone apparently unconscious.
Lang later posted an update from a Liverpool hospital, and despite being ruled out of the Netherland’s first March friendly against Norway, he’s said he could feature in the second.
“I still have my thumb, it’s still attached, and according to the doctor, it’s going to survive,” he told the Dutch media.
“My thumb got caught on a very sharp fence behind the advertising board. There was a very deep cut in it.
“That was no fun. Nor was seeing that on your own thumb.”
He added: “I was well taken care of, the operations went well too, but I am still suffering from it.
“It’s also not convenient for very normal things: I’m right-handed, so that’s not ideal in the toilet.
“No, playing PlayStation isn’t really possible either, but luckily you play football with your feet. Besides, I get good help with everything.
“Hopefully I can play against Ecuador on Tuesday. But we are not going to take any risks: the World Cup is more important later on.”
Adding his take, coach Ronald Koeman said: “We are going to see how that goes. It is a waiting game for him as well.”
