Galatasaray left Anfield out of the Champions League, but they’ve also lost two of their most important players.
The Turkish Super Lig side lost 4-0 on the night against Liverpool, exiting the competition after a 1-0 first-leg win.
There’s no shame at all in such a result, particularly given Turkish side’s recent history in the competition, and there are plenty of positives for Gala to take home.
However, there are also two massive negatives in the form of Victor Osimhen and Noa Lang.
Osimhen could be out for a while
Osimhen was in clear trouble during the first-half but battled the Gala medical team before eventually being withdrawn at half-time.
His team have now said: “In the first half of our away match against Liverpool in the Champions League Round of 16 second leg, our player Victor Osimhen took a blow to his arm and completed the first half.
“Following checks at halftime, he was not played in the second half due to the risk of a fracture in his arm.
“After the match, under the supervision of our medical team, examinations at the hospital revealed a fracture in our player’s right forearm, and it was casted.
“A decision regarding surgery will be made in the coming days following further evaluations.”
Lang in need of surgery
Things were perhaps not as long-term for Noa Lang, but far more gruesome.
The Dutch winger appeared to get his thumb caught in the advertising hauding in the 80th minute and was writhing in pain with blood pouring from the joint.
Videos later showed him leaving the stadium in a stretcher, and it looks like bad news.
Galatasaray said: “In the second half of the same match, our player Noa Lang, who suffered an injury, sustained a serious cut to his right thumb.
“It is planned for him to undergo surgery in Liverpool in the coming hours with the participation of our medical team.”
Gala currently have a four point Super Lig lead over Fenerbahce and have a game in hand.
However, with two of their best players out, things could well change.
