Vinicius Jr has been given a stark warning over his flirtations with Arsenal.
Major British outlets report that the Gunners are ready to go big on the Brazilian before he enters the final year of his contract.
Many in Spain see this as Vinicius trying to force Real Madrid into a more substantial contract offer.
The two-time Champions League winner has regularly expressed his desire to stay at the Bernabeu, but wants to be the club’s top earner ahead of Kylian Mbappe.
Madrid have shown little interest in doing so, and Vinicius has been warned that rubbing president Florentino Perez up the wrong way rarely ends well.
Perez has been Vinicius’ biggest defender through his struggles at the club, but history shows that could quickly change.
Vinicius and Real Madrid are playing games
Journalist Aritz Gabilondo explained: “If both sides want to renew, the agreement is signed and that’s it.
“Someone here is playing a different game. And, frankly, looking at the history of what’s happened with this story, remember the Saudi Arabia thing, and now Arsenal suddenly appears.
“It’s a strategy that Real Madrid, and specifically its president, has historically disliked.
“For example, I remember the case of Sergio Ramos and many others. Challenging Florentino Perez in this situation is very complicated.”
Ramos infamously tried to push Perez towards a two-year deal, breaking his squad planning for players over 30.
Perez took the move badly, called Ramos’ bluff, and saw him leave out of the back door to PSG.
Gabilondo finished: “If both parties agree, it will be signed immediately.
“It’s not a question of money. It’s whether he wants to play for Real Madrid or not. And that’s not the case, so it seems to me that the ball is more in Vinicius’s court than Real Madrid’s.”
Vinicius warned that chasing money will end badly
Another of Vinicius’ biggest defenders, AS editor Tomas Roncero, also gave the forward a warning.
He began: “He’s telling his friends that Madrid has given him everything and that they can’t do this to him by letting him leave for free when they invested in him and paid 45 million euros when he was just a promising young player.
“The agents might be more reserved, but Vinicius is clear that he can’t let Madrid leave for free.”
He added: “If I could talk to Vini, I would tell him that Madrid is paradise.
“If his agents have tried to convince him that he has to leave for money, because he needs to earn more, I would tell him that it’s absurd because he’s very young.
“You can’t leave Madrid for money. If you’re already rich, what difference does it make to be a little less rich?
“Do you think you haven’t paid off your mortgage? Enjoy life. You’re happy in Madrid.
“Even though he sometimes has a reluctant fanbase, deep down everyone loves him because he’s a footballer who came here as a kid who was the butt of memes and ended up being a fantastic player who was key in the last two Champions League titles.
“He has so many personal and sporting reasons to stay that, for five million more or less, honestly, I would be very sorry.
“I think he would be badly advised. If he really leaves for that reason, he would be badly advised.
“Then, I would be sorry, but I’ve always held the view that Real Madrid is far above everyone else and has continued winning Champions Leagues even after the best players in the world left.”
