Despite looking like his old self again, things aren’t exactly going well for Neymar’s Santos.
The Brazilian side were hammered 6-0 by Vasco de Gama on Saturday night making it the heaviest defeat of Neymar’s iconic career.
Taking part in the rout was his former Brazil teammate and one of the men who replaced him at Barcelona – Philippe Coutinho.
The former Liverpool man scored twice, with Vasco only a goal up at half time.
They then hammered in five in 16 minutes soon after the break to leave Santos reeling.
At full-time Neymar collapsed to the floor in a heap sobbing for several minutes, needing Vasco coach and his former Brazil manager Fernando Diniz to help him back up.
In the aftermath, his own team’s coach, Cleber Xavier, was sacked.
Speaking after, Neymar said: “I’m ashamed. I’m totally disappointed with our performance.
“The fans have every right to protest, obviously without resorting to violence… But if they want to curse and insult, that’s their right.
“It’s an extreme disgrace. I’ve never experienced this in my life.”
The result leaves Santos just two points from the relegation zone in Brazil’s Serie A.
