The fallout from Adrien Rabiot’s move to Marseille continues, and now one of his former teammates has had his say.
The midfielder joined OM as a free agent after the close of the summer transfer window, departing Juventus after five seasons.
Rabiot graduated to senior football through the academy of Marseille’s arch-rivals PSG where he spent seven years.
During that stint, he even said it was ‘inconceivable’ and ‘a joke’ that he could play for OM when he was briefly linked with a loan in 2013.
However, the move eventually materialised, and we’ve already had an awkward ‘no comment’ moment from PSG captain Marquinhos.
Now, Mamadou Sakho, a Paris native who also came through the club’s academy, has responded.
“Honestly, it’s true that it tickled me,” the former Liverpool and Crystal Palace defender said. “I know the world of football but I don’t know how he left PSG.
“Depending on his situation with the club at the time of his departure, and I don’t know if they went to war, different people may have different feelings.
“As a Parisian since childhood, a player who wears the PSG jersey does not have the right to wear the Marseille jersey.
“I am a true Parisian and I would prefer to end my career rather than wear the OM jersey. But I’m speaking for myself.”
