Marseille have announced an agreement for the signing of Adrien Rabiot, and it’s rather awkward.
The France international and long-time Juventus midfielder has been a free agent since June 30, but it’s OM who surprisingly landed him after numerous links to Premier League and Serie A sides.
The deal isn’t too surprising when you look at Marseille‘s summer spending, but it is when you consider Rabiot’s history.
The Paris-born star made his professional debut with PSG, and spent from 2010 to 2019 with his boyhood side.
In 2016, before a victorious Coupe de France over Marseille, Rabiot was asked if he could ever play for PSG’s biggest rivals, and made a comment which has ended very badly.
“Wearing this jersey one day? It’s not possible,” he said.
He was also asked about rumours OM tried to loan him in 2013 and added: “For me, it was not conceivable to be loaned out.
“At the beginning, I had spoken about it with my family and my brothers, I even thought it was a joke. Going to play in Marseille, it’s inconceivable.”
