The fallout from Adrien Rabiot’s Marseille fight continues to unravel.
The France midfielder and new (now old) teammate Jonathan Rowe were both transfer listed after an opening day defeat to Rennes which reportedly saw them come to blows in the dressing room.
OM president Pablo Longoria and sporting director Medhi Benatia both did the media rounds to talk up the level of violence that took place, justifying their treatment of the players.
English winger Rowe has now joined Bologna just months after signing from Norwich on a permanent deal, while Rabiot may be given a second chance.
Speaking after a 5-2 matchday 2 win over Paris FC, Marseille head coach Roberto De Zerbi suggested he wasn’t in line with Longoria and Benatia.
He commented: “I haven’t yet spoken with Pablo and Medhi, but the hope that I have, and it’s not only for the value of the player, but really in relation to the person that he is, even if he made a mistake, I hope that there is the possibility of reconsidering this thing.
“I’m not someone who slams doors in your face. But, I’m not the only person to decide, it’s always the club that comes before the coach.
“I confirm what I said yesterday: I gave him advice, I hope he will follow it and that he will follow me.
“I consider myself a good person, so I always reach out to anyone and I never put a cross on anyone. And if I can help in some way to resolve this problem, then I’m ready for anything.”
