Javier Mascherano has broken his silence on Lionel Messi, and it didn’t look great.
The Barcelona legend left his post as Inter Miami head coach during the off season, citing ‘personal reasons’.
There were rumblings at the time of a fall out with club captain Messi, boosted by some social media activity.
Messi failed to post any form of tribute to the man who guided Miami to their first MLS Cup, something interpreted as a snub of his former teammate.
And when it comes to interpretations, his latest response to a Messi question spoke volumes, just look for yourself.
Mascherano was asked about Messi’s condition ahead of the World Cup and responded: “Good, good. Honestly, he always looks good.”
But it doesn’t take a body language expert to assess his response to the question, confirming to many that things did indeed fall apart between the pair.
Mascherano’s departure caused Beckham concern
Speaking at the time of Mascherano’s resignation, owner David Beckham said: “It’s difficult. At some point we’ll have to find a new coach.
“He’s an incredible person, a great coach, the players adored him, but obviously, these things happen in football clubs and we have to move on.
“We need to let things settle down.”
Mascherano said in a statement: “I want to let everyone know that, for personal reasons, I have decided to end my tenure as head coach of Inter Miami CF.
“First and foremost, I would like to thank the Club for the trust they placed in me, every employee who is part of the organization for the collective effort, but especially the players, who made it possible for us to experience unforgettable moments.
“I also want to thank the fans and La Familia, because none of this would have been possible without them.
“I will always carry with me the memory of our first star, and wherever I am, I will continue to wish the Club all the best moving forward.
“I have no doubt that the Club will continue to achieve success in the future.”
