A year-and-a-half into his Barcelona job and Hansi Flick has finally spoken Spanish in front of the media.
Yet these wasn’t a charming moment from the German coach, with a 2-1 LaLiga defeat to Real Sociedad leading him to sarcasm.
Barcelona had three goals ruled out and a penalty overturned in the defeat, and Flick targeted both referee Gil Manzano and the video team.
Barca similarly had a controversial offside last season away at Anoeta, and Flick asked post match in English: “Was it the same VAR as last season?”
When he was told it was, he spoke his first Spanish, saying: “Oh, very good. Good job,” while sarcastically applauding.
On Manzano, he added: “Everyone knows what happened.
“We have to continue down this path, we can’t change the way we play, and now we have to focus on what things to change to improve.
“I don’t agree with some of the decisions, but that’s all there is to it.”
One of his captains, Frenkie De Jong, was even more critical of Manzano, saying he was unable to talk to the referee.
“You can’t even talk to him, and I don’t understand it,” he said post-match.
“Besides, I’m the captain, and I should be able to talk to him.
“He looks at me with a ‘I’m better than you’ face; it’s very frustrating. I don’t think he can behave like that.”
