Frenkie De Jong had some advice for fellow captain Dani Carvajal.
The pair both wore their club’s armbands in a fiery Clasico which Real Madrid won 2-1 against Barcelona.
However, they also had very different approaches to the chaos that greeted the full time whistle.
Carvajal triggered a brawl with a speaking gesture at Lamine Yamal over his pre-match comments that Madrid ‘steal and complain’.
His intervention comes after he said he would seek talks with his countryman to ease tensions for the national team.
That plan now looks completely out of the window, and De Jong saw it as a misstep.
“I saw when the referee blew his whistle that there were Real Madrid players running towards Lamine,” the Dutchman said.
“It was all a bit exaggerated, but it’s their business and they’ll know why they did it.
“He [Carvajal] can speak to him privately if he knows him and not make gestures. Or call him on the phone.
“If you’re Lamine’s teammate and you know him and you think he can’t do it, you should call him instead of doing it on the pitch.”
