Erik ten Hag has been sacked by Bayer Leverkusen after just two Bundesliga games, and three overall including the cup.
With a record of a loss and a draw in the league it was clear all wasn’t well after the end of the glory-filled Xabi Alonso era, and Leverkusen decided to cut ties amid disagreements between the coach, his staff, players and management.
Such a rapid exit seems unprecedented, but is it? Well foot.mundo investigates…
The fastest Bundesliga sackings
While multiple Bundesliga coaches have been fired earlier in the season, they all had managed during the previous game, making Ten Hag’s two games as a newbie an outright record.
The closest anyone came to beating him was Dettmar Cramer who left Hertha Berlin after just a few training sessions in 1974, but it was widely reported the separation was his decision, rather than a sacking.
Both Rolf Fringer at Stuttgart in 1996 and Jorn Andersen at Mainz in 2008 were fired quicker than Ten Hag, leaving just one game into the new season, but they both managed in the previous campaign, making the Dutchman the standalone record holder.
