Cristiano Ronaldo’s chances of being an ambassador for the 2034 Saudi World Cup aren’t exactly looking great.
The Al Nassr striker has all eyes on him ahead of a huge clash against Al Ittihad where he may again continue his strike.
Reports in the Portuguese press claim Ronaldo perceives a bias towards Al Hilal from the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund who also own his side Nassr.
Hilal, who are four points ahead of Nassr with a game more played, spent €70million in January and landed Karim Benzema while Nassr only made one local signing.
Yet the league itself has now released a statement denying such bias.
“The Saudi Pro League is structured around a simple principle: each club operates independently, according to the same rules,” a spokesperson said.
“Each club has its own board of directors, its own management, and its own staff.
“Decisions regarding recruitment, spending, and strategy are the responsibility of the clubs, within a financial system designed to guarantee financial sustainability and competitive balance.
“This system applies equally to the entire league.”
The directly commenting on Ronaldo, they finished: “Cristiano has been fully committed to Al Nassr since his arrival and has played an important role in the club’s growth and ambitions.
“Like any top competitor, he wants to win. But no individual, however important, makes decisions beyond their own club.”
