Karim Benzema has departed Saudi Arabia without Al Ittihad’s permission.
Local media report that the Frenchman went AWOL after a 5-2 defeat to Al Nassr.
Benzema also suspended his social media channels after the defeat, saying goodbye to his 76million Instagram followers, at least temporarily.
The result left reigning champions Ittihad sixth in the table and out of the title picture.
Benzema was their marquee signing during a big-spending summer window, but has grown distant with the fanbase.
Discussing the striker’s start in the Middle East, renowned Saudi Arabian journalist Abdel Karim Al Jasser said: “He may be in disagreement with the club, but that doesn’t excuse him because he doesn’t make any effort.
“He wastes very easy chances and seems to have lost the desire to play football.”
Benzema was also reportedly responsible for Nuno Espírito Santo’s firing as head coach, with the Portuguese sacked after winning the SPL last season.
