Logo changes are never popular, particularly at clubs with huge histories.
One of those is Marseille, who are arguably still the biggest team in France even with PSG’s more recent success.
As such, ‘OM’ have one of football’s most unique and memorable logos, yet the club have decided to change it.
The Ligue 1 outfit said goodbye to their classy lettering with another circular logo, which appear to be taking over football.
They did at least keep the star and slogan separate to distinguish it from PSG and Toulouse’s boring new designs.
OM claimed the opposite, though, saying in their video: “In a world where football is conventional and sanitized, we, Olympique de Marseille, remain a bastion of authenticity and truth.
“Raw emotions. A pride that burns in the heart and body. An unparalleled energy that cannot be negotiated.
“Here, we say what others dare not say, we show what they barely dare to dream of.”
Leading Marseille outlet La Provence reported that fans were consulted during the process, and with no overwhelming favourite, no one appears to be happy with the final design.
In fact, during consultations at the training ground, the company in charge were told “Your logo is rubbish,” by one annoyed ultra.
Another added: “They even used Peugeot and Citroën as examples to explain this change. I didn’t know we sold cars…”
To make matters worse, this new design was part of a project orchestrated by former president Pablo Longoria who has now departed the club.
