Alisson Becker won’t be allowed his red kit against Scotland after a reported move from the president of the football federation [CBF].
FIFA have announced Brazil‘s goalkeepers will be allowed to wear green in their final group game, having worn black and pink previously.
According to O Globo, a red kit had been announced for the match, but a change occurred following a request from Samir Xaud, president of the CBF.
Since another kit was available and there would be no conflict with the opposing team’s colours, FIFA authorised the change.
However there’s more to the story than meets the eye.
Why red kits are controversial in Brazil
Last year, upon signing a new Nike deal with Jordan, a red kit was rumoured, and politicians on the right fumed as they saw it as a reference to the party of Brazilian president Lula.
Xaud has denied that this was his motive for blocking the kit at the time, saying: “It was a delicate matter.
“I’ll even make a digression. Many people took it to the political side. I took it to the side of Brazil, of the colours of the Brazilian flag. Blue, yellow, green, and white are the colours of our flags and are the colours that must be followed.
“I was against the red shirt, not for political reasons. It was actually in production. I had an urgent meeting with Nike and asked them to stop production.”
O Globo add that Nike and FIFA declined to comment on the matter, while the CBF have even denied the kit’s existence.

Brazilian goalkeepers have worn red on other occasions, such as in 2013 and 2014, but one right wing politician claimed the opposite last year.
Brazil’s kit became political
In a social media clip, Romeu Zema, the conservative governor of the state of Minas Gerais, was given a mock up of the shirt, and threw it on the ground, saying: “Our shirt will never be red.”
The CBF said in a statement: “The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) clarifies that the recently released images of alleged Brazilian National Team uniforms for the 2026 World Cup are not official.
“Neither the CBF nor Nike have formally released details about the National Team’s new line.
“The entity reaffirms its commitment to its statute (the traditional yellow and blue colours will be maintained) and informs that the new uniform collection for the World Cup will still be designed in conjunction with Nike.”
