Football kits are prone to causing anger, but not often before they’ve already been released.
However, this is Brazil we’re talking about, and the colour red.
Rumours surfaced over a red kit for the 2026 World Cup on Footy Headlines which is seen as somewhat of an authority on football kits.
Traditionally Brazil kits have been made by Nike, but the ’26 edition will taken over by the Jordan brand, and they’ve already made enemies.
Brazil have never worn red in their more than 100 year footballing history and fans have panned it online.
In fact, those on the right have even accused it of being a tribute to president Lula’s party which wear the colour.
Romeu Zema, the conservative governor of the state of Minas Gerais, was given a mock up of the shirt, and threw it on the ground, saying: “Our shirt will never be red.”
And now the football federation have had to get involved, with the CBF saying in a statement: “The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) clarifies that the recently released images of alleged Brazilian National Team uniforms for the 2026 World Cup are not official.
“Neither the CBF nor Nike have formally released details about the National Team’s new line.
“The entity reaffirms its commitment to its statute (the traditional yellow and blue colours will be maintained) and informs that the new uniform collection for the World Cup will still be designed in conjunction with Nike.”
