If there was any doubt about the greatest-ever women’s football player, Marta has now put it to bed.
The Brazil icon won her fourth women’s Copa America (Sudamericano Femenino) and was the whole show.
The previously retired 39 year old was subbed on in the 82nd minute of the final against Colombia and had to watch her team go 3-2 down.
Deep into stoppage time it looked like Colombia were champions, but then in the ninth minute of added time up stepped Marta with a thunderbolt to force extra time.
She then scored again in the extra period, and while Colombia would equalise, Brazil won on penalties, even if Marta did incredibly miss.
Her stoppage time equaliser will go down in footballing folklore though, and she spoke afterwards to bring an end to the greatest international career women’s football has seen.
“I’m very excited. This is the last Copa América in which you saw Marta play,” she said.
“I missed a penalty, but what would have happened? We would’ve finished a little early? I’m very happy.”
