Borussia Dortmund are in talks to bring Sven Mislintat back to the club, which will surprise many Ajax fans.
According to Sky Germany, the Bundesliga side have opened discussions with their former head scout about becoming sporting director.
CEO Hans Joachim Watzke will step down in the summer, and with current sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, set to move up in his place, a role for Mislintat would be freed up.
That’s despite his last role in football being an unmitigated disaster.
The German, who was also head scout at Arsenal after BVB, went on to become a sporting director at Stuttgart, then at Ajax in 2023.
His stint in Amsterdam lasted just four months, with a number of terrible decisions.
He was given €100million to spend, and brought in 12 players, all of which have had little impact.
He left with the club bottom of the Eredivisie in September, and soon after, another of his hires, head coach Maurice Steijn, also departed.
Mislintat was also subject to an investigation into purchasing players through a third party of which he had shares in.
Later discussing his departure, he said: “Unfortunately, the time in Amsterdam was far too short. My work felt unfinished. The dismissal also hurt a bit.”
