Borussia Dortmund‘s decision to bring back Sven Mislintat is leaving people in the Netherlands perplexed.
Multiple reports claim that BVB’s former head scout is set to be confirmed as the club’s sporting director for next season within the coming days.
Since leaving Dortmund in 2017, Mislintat had relatively unsuccessful stints at Arsenal as a head scout and then at Stuttgart and Ajax as a sporting director.
His most recent stint in the Eredivisie saw €100million largely squandered, and a departure after four months with the Dutch giants bottom of the table.
Reacting to the news of his BVB return, well-respected Dutch journalist and author Michel van Egmond said: “It’s bizarre. That’s how it goes in football. You blunder, you wait a while and you can start again.”
Fellow podcast host and football agent Rob Jansen added: “This is very extreme. Of course, he comes from there and they look at him differently, but in the international football world it is completely insane what is happening here.
“This is just completely absurd. There is something really wrong with Dortmund’s management.”
