Alvaro Arbeloa has again proved far more entertaining in his press conferences than his predecessor.
Xabi Alonso was often accused of being boring at Real Madrid, but Arbeloa has now delivered his best line yet among a competitive field.
Ahead of facing Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey semi-finals, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick was asked if his side’s run to the final four wasn’t worth much as they’d only played lower league opposition.
The German came up with an amusing response, saying: “Ask Real Madrid.”
That was in response to Madrid also not playing a LaLiga side, but getting knocked out in the last 16 against second tier Albacete in Arbeloa’s first game.
Flick was soon left reeling as Barca were destroyed 4-0 in the first leg of their semi-final, with Atleti scoring all four in the first half.
Arbeloa was asked if he watched the humiliation and had a simple but brutal response.
“I have nothing to add. Ask Flick’s Barça,” he said.
