Werder Bremen legend Ailton has come down hard on current striker Victor Boniface.
The Nigerian has been a disaster signing so far, playing just 11 games after joining as a Bundesliga winner with Bayer Leverkusen.
A knee injury looked to have ended his time at the club, but Boniface has since returned to training ahead of schedule and may still play for the relegation-threatened side.
That may sound good, but there’s a problem.
Boniface arrived at Bremen training carrying some extra weight that even the club’s coach was forced to comment on.
And now their former Bundesliga-winning striker Ailton has gone in harder.
“His belly is unbelievable. He absolutely has to lose weight,” the Brazilian told BILD.
“In his current form, he can’t be of any help to Werder. I don’t see him scoring any more goals for Werder this season.”
Commenting on himself, he continued: “People said to me ‘Ailton is a bit fat. If he lost weight, he’d be even faster and more dangerous.’
“But that was nonsense. I was still very fast and made good use of my body.
“Boniface is under pressure and needs to work on himself now. But the season isn’t long anymore. I wonder how motivated he is.”
