Previously untouchable at Real Madrid, Vincius Jr’s future prospects are deteriorating rapidly.
The Brazilian has had the full support of Los Blancos, who refused to turn up to the 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony after finding out Rodri had beaten him to the award.
They’ve also staunchly defended him against racism, and Carlo Ancelotti has had to put up with questions about his attitude on the pitch.
However, the one thing that’s unacceptable at Real Madrid is playing badly.
With Vinicius in poor form he clashed with club captain Luka Modric during a 3-2 Copa del Rey win over Leganes.
Things got heated and reports claim they were far worse in the tunnel.
Since Modric turned on Vinicius, so have the media, with Marca putting together an editorial saying his attitude is now a problem.
“Vinicius has become a problem for Real Madrid,” Raul Varela wrote.
“I don’t know if it’s the Ballon d’Or that he didn’t get, The Best that he got, the coexistence at all levels with Kylian Mbappé or the call from Saudi Arabia that he doesn’t really want to answer, but his entourage speaks for him. The fact is that this Vinicius is different.
“Nobody sees him as a replacement, but nobody sees him as an indisputable player either, given his performances, which are now well below those of Kylian, Rodrygo and I would even say Brahim.
“You no longer go past a cone, the referees are no longer afraid to give you cards, your coach is tired of doing so much therapy and even your teammates point the finger at you for an uncorrected error.”
The timing of the tide turning on Vinicius is curious too, with RMC Sport claiming that Madrid’s stance on a world record €300million offer from Saudi Arabia has now softened.
