It’s lucky Flamengo are playing PSG in the Intercontinental Cup final and not Real Madrid.
The Copa Libertadores champions will face off against the Champions League winners and Saúl Níguez has been talking about just how big Flamengo are.
“It’s bigger than Real Madrid,” the former Real academy product turned long-time Atletico Madrid man said.
“In truth, Real Madrid doesn’t have fans. It’s famous, yes, for what it’s won and is known worldwide, and therefore has followers.
“But you go to the stadium and you don’t feel anything. In contrast, you go to the Maracanã, an emblematic stadium that’s always full. Away from home, the field is full of Flamengo fans.
“Recently, we played against Sport Recife and they sent us to another stadium because, otherwise, our fans wouldn’t fit. And we’re talking about a three-and-a-half-hour flight.
“We go to Lima and our fans fill the stadium to 100%. And then you see that Palmeiras fans don’t fill it… And people say: ‘Those are the great fans’.”
