Real Madrid are planning to make a January defensive signing after a season-ending ACL injury to David Alaba.
The Austrian came off during a 4-1 win over Villarreal and was soon given the worst diagnosis possible, with the knee injury ending his season and Euro 2024 hopes.
Alaba joins defensive partner Eder Militao and also Thibaut Courtois in requiring ligament surgery, with Madrid’s defence taking an absolute hammering.
Antonio Rudiger recently returned from injury, while Nacho was forced to cover at the weekend, but after that Madrid’s ranks are empty.
AS report that a shortlist has already been drawn up for the January window, with Carlo Ancelotti wanting serious young talents, rather than a stop-gap.
Portugal internationals Goncalo Inacio of Sporting and Antonio Silva of Benfica are both top of the list, with a move for Inacio already planned for the summer.
That may now be moved forward, while Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Willian Pacho are also of interest and seen as potentially attainable mid-season.
In the short-term it looks likely that Aurelian Tchouameni could fill in at centre-back, with Madrid back at the top of LaLiga following their latest win.
