Luis Enrique has had some strong words for those who criticised PSG’s staggering 5-4 win over Bayern Munich.
The two sides played out one of the most exciting matches in Champions League history in the first leg of their semi-final, breaking numerous goalscoring records.
The match was largely praised as possibly the greatest of all time in Europe when it came to individual attacking quality.
However, when it came to defending, some weren’t happy.
Amazon pundits Wayne Rooney and Clarence Seedorf were both negative about the match, and Luis Enrique had no time at all for their critique.
“It’s like life, there are opinions everywhere,” he said.
“I don’t think it’s important to respect every opinion, because if it’s a shitty opinion, there’s no reason to respect it…
“There are people who like football played like this, they’re the majority, and I’m one of them
“But some don’t like it. What I think is that we showed that the majority enjoyed the match, and that’s the most important thing.”
Luis Enrique said it was the greatest match he’d ever been involved in as a coach, and most involved agreed.
Rooney and Seedorf critique PSG vs Bayern
Rooney was first to complain after seeing a euphoric Harry Kane interview.
“The defending from both teams was really bad from both teams, I think he is being modest there,” he said.
Seedorf then went further, adding: Ask the goalkeepers if they’re happy. They are not happy, a clean sheet was always sacred for goalkeepers.
“We have seen a team like Arsenal making that difference this year, having so many clean sheets and coming all the way.
“So if I had to point out one team now, that would be capable to actually bring it home because of that capacity, actually it’s Arsenal.’
Rooney went on to add: “I don’t see how, if you’re a player or a coach, no matter if you’ve won the game, you go into that game having conceded four or five goals and be happy. I think there’s got to be questions asked.”
Luis Enrique on PSG vs Bayern
Adding more thoughts on the match, the Spaniard said in his press conference: “What a level both teams have, what a level their attackers have!
“A 5-4 scoreline might seem catastrophic for the defenses, but we’re two of the best defensive teams along with Arsenal. It was a different kind of match.
“They’re the toughest opponent I’ve faced with PSG.
“It’s a unique football match for me. If I normally dedicate three hours to analysis, this time it was five hours for PSG-Bayern.
“There were incredible plays, both in attack and defence, from Bayern. There wasn’t a single defencive error, which made this match magnificent.
“Look at how Kane and Dembélé defended! Incredible! We have to congratulate both teams and enjoy the match.”
