Having left Porto after 42 years, Pinto da Costa is continuing jibes at his replacement Andre Villas-Boas, this time over Pepe.
The 82-year-old was overwhelmingly ousted in an often personal and unpleasant contest earlier this year.
Sitting down for the first time since his departure and cancer diagnosis, Da Costa claimed that two club legends left as a result of his departure.
He had already claimed that Sérgio Conceição left because of Villas-Boas, and has now added Pepe’s retirement to that claim.
“I have contracts signed by Pepe and Sérgio Conceição to play for Porto again this year,” he said.
“I have a copy and Pepe has a duplicate. I have photos of him signing.
“He said: ‘If you win [the elections], I’ll sign the contract and I’ll play. If you don’t win, I’ll end my career’.”
