Neymar has missed his biggest chance yet to return to the Brazil squad, and there are plenty of reasons as to why.
The Santos captain is missing his side’s next Brasilerao match against Mirassol due to a muscle strain which couldn’t have come at a worse time.
Brazil coach Ancelotti will be present for the match along with his staff, and was clearly only attending to watch Neymar.
With Real Madrid’s Rodrygo out of the 2026 World Cup, a spot is now open up front, but Neymar won’t be able to impress Ancelotti in person.
Yet there’s more to the story than meets the eye.
As many social media users have pointed out, his sister’s birthday is on March 11th, and he’s previously been accused of sitting out games before to celebrate with her.
Now that claims have taken off over yet another March 11th injury, the 34-year-old has responded.
Neymar responds to sister’s birthday claims
“There are a lot of people creating theories about what’s happening to me,” he said in a social media video.
“It’s okay. If I play injured, I’m wrong. If I take care of my health, I’m wrong. If I play in pain, I’m wrong. It’s very difficult to get it right.”
He added: “What surprises me most is these people who seem to be with me every day and then start making up stories.
“They act like they have the absolute truth.”
Wherever you stand, the facts are Neymar has missed the match closest to his sister’s birthday for 10 of the past 11 seasons.
Enough to turn down Ancelotti? Who knows…
