Neymar continues to defy Santos’ doctors with another sublime showing for the relegation-threatened Brazilian giants.
It had previously been announced that Brazil’s all-time top scorer would be out for the remainder of the Brasileirão Série A campaign with meniscus pain in his right knee as a result of a long-term hamstring issue.
However, he shocked everyone by playing against bottom side Sport where he scored and assisted in a victory.
Next up were another already relegated side in Juventude, and Neymar was the difference once again, scoring a hat-trick, his first in almost four years since his time at PSG.
Two neat finishes and a penalty gave Santos a 3-0 win, and they’re now two points clear of the relegation zone with one game left to play.
Speaking post-match, Neymar said: “There’s one match left. We have to give everything at Vila Belmiro (Santos’ stadium).
“Given the effort I put in to be on the pitch, always prioritising my health as an athlete, nothing else that could harm my career, what happens, happens, and that’s what I’ve been dealing with for months, even years, with injuries. I’m trying to overcome them to be at 100%.”
