One of the greatest defenders to ever play the game, Marcelo has played with many of the best.
The former left-back retired last week at the age of 36 after an iconic career, mainly at Real Madrid, which saw five Champions League victories.
He played with greats like Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham in Madrid, while for Brazil he lined up with Cristiano Ronaldo and Ronaldo Nazario.
Yet, when speaking to El Hormiguero about his career, he gave some unexpected names when asked about his best teammates.
“I have played with many excellent players. Always. Ronaldinho, in the national team, was the best,” he said.
“But the one who impressed me the most was Isco, when we were together at Real Madrid, nobody could take the ball off him.”
Isco also won five European Cups alongside Marcelo at Madrid, having graduated at Valencia’s famed academy and stopped off in Malaga.
Things went awry when he left Real in 2022 for Sevilla and then had a failed move to Union Berlin.
Now back in Spain with Real Betis, he’s returned to top form and is again considered one of LaLiga’s best midfielders.
Marcelo was also asked about the pressure from Madrid fans who often boo the team, and defended them, saying it’s justified.
“I tell the Real Madrid fans that they are wonderful and very good. They teach us. When things go wrong, they boo us,” he said.
“Sometimes I feel sad, but I know that they’re right and I should improve. The Real Madrid fans are priceless.”
