Never shy from controversial comments in his later years, Neymar has made headlines talking about his future and recent past.
Brazil’s all-time top scorer recently returned from a long-term injury with Al Hilal in the Saudi Pro League, a team he joined from PSG in 2023 as the league’s record signing at £60million.
His departure from Ligue 1 wasn’t exactly pleasant, but no one could have quite expected him to turn on France so quickly after it made him the most expensive player in history with a £200million move from Barcelona in 2017.
Speaking to CNN, Neymar was asked about Cristiano Ronaldo saying Ligue 1 is ‘finished’ and that the Saudi Pro League is stronger, and rather surprisingly he agreed with the Al Nassr striker.
“Today, I think it is,” he said. “The level of the Saudi Pro League is increasing and, from what I see, it’s better than Ligue 1.
“Ligue 1 has its positives. The league is very strong. I played in it, so I know this well.
“Today (though), the players in the Saudi Pro League are better. Saudi Arabia has surprised me in a positive way. The people, the country, the cities, the culture.
“I think it’s a country that’s continually growing. It will also host the World Cup in 2034, which I think will be incredible.”
