UPDATE 7/5/2026: Spanish federation ban Gerard Pique
The RFEF Disciplinary Committee have announced their punishment for Andorra FC and owner Pique.
For Andorra, they’ve been given a tiny €1500 fine and a partial stadium closure for the next two matches, including the VIP boxes where Pique and his fellow owners usually sit.
Pique himself has been sanctioned with six matches for ‘violent conduct with an opponent’ and a two-month suspension ‘for notorious acts that violate sporting decorum’.
Gerard Pique’s Andorra could face a points deduction over his own behaviour.
Pique bought the side in 2018 and is currently trying to bring them to the top flight LaLiga.
However, those hopes were all but ended on Friday with a 1-0 defeat to Albacete leaving them on the brink of missing the play-offs.
Post-match, owner Pique completely lost his head according to the referee’s report.
Gerard Pique attacks referee
It was written that: “Gerard Pique Bernabéu addressed me, raising technical objections regarding my refereeing…
“Mr. Gerard Pique shouted at me in a threatening manner, following me within inches of my face along the tunnel to the entrance of the referees’ dressing room, protesting and objecting to my performance.
“Just as we entered the dressing room, Mr. Gerard Pique shouted: ‘Now, if you want, put it in the report!’”
Later the report claimed: “Once we left the locker room and were heading to the parking lot with the Andorran security forces present at all times, Mr. Gerard Pique and Mr. Jaume Nogués approached us, repeatedly protesting the referee’s decisions made during the match.
“Furthermore, Mr. Gerard Pique said: ‘Leave with an escort, lest you be attacked.’ And he also told the match delegate: ‘In another country, they would beat you to a pulp, but here in Andorra, we are a civilized country.’”
This isn’t the first time Pique has confronted a referee after an Andorra result, in fact it’s the third time this season, and the repercussions could be brutal.
Pique’s Andorra could be docked points
For repeated acts, article 93.1 of the Disciplinary Code says there could be fine of between €602 and €3,006 and one or more of the following penalties:
- Disqualification or suspension for a period of one month to two years or at least four matches.
- Closure, total or partial, of up to three matches or two months.
- Deduction of three points in the final classification.
Giving his take on the events, former long time LaLiga referee Iturralde González said: “The courts are open on Monday, so they will have to appear because the referee’s report is presumed to be true.
“Andorra cannot demand that a referee correct a report because it is presumed to be true.
“In a civilized country, there is no place for ill-mannered people like Mr. Pique.
“It’s unacceptable that every weekend his team loses he goes out to protest the referee’s performance.
“You can’t think you’re in the Kings League – you’re in professional football.”
He added: “What the referees’ union needs to do—because the competition committee, which will issue sanctions, is one thing—is to report these actions, not wait for the committee to decide.
“The courts are there to file a civil lawsuit. It can’t always be the same person, and in a civilized country, behaviour like Pique’s is unacceptable.
“In another country, he might not be able to make those statements because he’d be in jail.”
