Barcelona legend Gerard Pique is back in the headlines for an alleged attack on a referee.
The former defender is the majority owner of FC Andorra who are currently playing in Spain’s second tier.
A successful businessman since his 2022 retirement, Pique is trying to get Andorra into LaLiga, and didn’t respond appropriately after their latest slip up.
Andorra drew 1-1 against Mirandes on Saturday night, and the referee’s match report has made some startling allegations.
Alonso de Ena Wolf wrote: “Once the match had finished and while he was in the tunnel leading to the changing rooms, he addressed my assistant number 1, Mr. Jaume Nogues Llorens, loudly and aggressively, saying the following: ‘You are scoundrels, this is a disgrace’.
“This situation led Mr. Gerard Piqué to approach within a few centimetres of assistant number 1, shouting and in an intimidating manner, making comments about the referee’s decisions.”
He added that: “Mr. Carles Manso Rubio addressed the same assistant number 1 in the following terms: ‘son of a bitch, son of a bitch.’
“At that moment, Mr. Jaume Nogues Llorens and Mr. Gerard Piqué approached me, raising objections to the referee in a threatening tone.
“Specifically, Mr. Jaume Nogues Llorens loudly stated, ‘What a disgrace, you have no shame,’ and had to be removed again by the police.”
Looking into how such an incident fits into the guidelines of the RFEF’s Disciplinary Committee, Mundo Deportivo claim Pique could be facing a fine from €3000 to €30,000.
