Luis Enrique had a press conference from hell after another early Kylian Mbappe substitution.
The PSG manager again took his star man off ahead of schedule, on this occasion at half-time.
It was 0-0 against Monaco at the time, and the game finished that way, but not without Mbappe stealing the headlines by coming back out changed out of his kit, and heading to sit with his mum in the stands.
Luis Enrique was asked why the change was made, and again referenced Mbappe’s summer departure to Real Madrid.
“It has been 100% the coach’s decision,” he said. “Sooner or later we will have to get used to playing without Kylian.
“As a coach, my goal is always to find the best for the team, what I consider to be the best for the team.”
Asked to explain the decision again, he said: “I’m not going to get into that game. I’m a professional and what I’ve said to my players is what I’m going to repeat ad nauseam.
“There’s no problem, it’s managing a situation in the best way, in the way I think is best. Nothing more.”
After a third question about Mbappe, Luis Enrique said: “A hat-trick! I try to find the best option for the team. The option that I think is best… I may or may not be wrong, whoever it is I take off.
“A punishment? My answer is the one I have given. Sooner or later, we have to get used to it to play without him.
“I have to make decisions all the time. My philosophy is to think about what’s best for the team. I don’t want to argue, it’s my decision.”
