With French journalists scrambling for answers to PSG’s 1-0 Champions League defeat to Liverpool, Emmanuel Petit had a simple one.
The Arsenal and France great was appearing on RMC Sport after PSG battered the Premier League side in the first leg of their last 16 tie.
With 27 shots, 10 on target, and 70 per cent possession, Luis Enrique was gutted post-match, calling the result unfair.
With RMC dissecting PSG‘s performance, Petit shook his head and butted in.
“Alisson, he’s having a crazy game, that’s all,” he began. “He was in a state of grace. He disgusted everyone.
“If he doesn’t make his exceptional saves… The Parisians have shaken up Liverpool like I’ve never seen since the start of the season.
“You don’t realise how well PSG have performed. I watch Liverpool’s game every weekend in the Premier League. If Alisson has an average day, Liverpool concedes four.
“Even when they defended well collectively, there’s still the X factor behind it. They never panicked but if you don’t have Alisson… When you see the firm hand he had on all the saves. He was monstrous.”
With Gilbert Brisbois and Daniel Riolo again trying to look for other reasons, Petit has to making himself clear.
“I don’t know what you’re looking for because there’s no Alisson’s state of grace, it’s a 4-1,” said the 1998 World Cup winner.
“Guys, you’re trying to find explanations for Paris Saint-Germain’s defeat, but Alisson had a crazy match.
“You tell me yes, he didn’t put Ramos in the last twenty minutes, yes he beat Donnarumma… there’s no problem, I agree with you, but you’re forgetting the major thing: it’s Alisson.”
“I’ve been following Liverpool for years and I’ve never seen them play a whole game in their last thirty metres. Never, never.
“You can explain to me whatever you want. I’ve never seen Liverpool get beaten up like that in a game.
“You’re looking for explanations for PSG’s defeat, it’s Alisson, I’m telling you. It happens in football, it’s not the first time that an individual stands out in a game and makes you win on their own.”
