There isn’t much fear for PSG against reigning Premier League champions Liverpool tonight.
The current Champions League holders take on the six-time winners at Parc des Prince, but Liverpool are in the midst of a poor season, coming off a hammering by Manchester City.
As such, the French press don’t see anything to worry about for Luis Enrique.
RMC Sport host Daniel Riolo explained: “This Wednesday evening, the Parc des Princes will be packed, there will be a great atmosphere, unlike Friday (against Toulouse, 2-1) when people came to see the Harlem Globetrotters.
“It will be a big European night, everyone will be involved. I have the feeling they just have to play their game and it will go smoothly.
“We’ll be facing something serious for Paris in the semi-final [Bayern or Real Madrid], that’s for sure.”
Going further on why he’s so confident, the pundit added: “You’re up against a team (PSG) brimming with energy because their delayed preseason has paid off, because there’s no longer a league season.
“They’re nowhere near the physical condition they were in for the two-legged playoff against Monaco, which, in hindsight, was a crucial turning point because if there was going to be a disaster, it would have been in that match.
“I think the team was overconfident—which doesn’t happen often—and wasn’t in peak physical condition.
“Since then, they’ve only improved; there was no comparison against Chelsea.
“They don’t tire themselves out in the league, there’s no real competition anymore.”
However, if Liverpool do have some hope, it’s in goal for PSG who switched summer signing Lucas Chevalier for Matvey Safonov, only for the Russian to hit poor form recently.
“Liverpool ‘s players will target Safonov the way they targeted Donnarumma last year, with aerial play and crosses,” warned goalkeeping coach Christophe Lollichon.
“It’s not his strong point, we saw that against Chelsea where he was heavily fouled, especially on corners. Against Toulouse, there was a double misjudgment.
“And sometimes, he seems a bit rushed with his distribution, both short and long. He’s strong on his line, especially with ground balls. But there are areas where we can have doubts.”
