Lionel Messi could be in trouble after a viral video showed him trying to enter the referees’ room.

Images showed the Argentine World Cup winner being held back by Inter Miami teammate Luis Suarez after a brutal 3-0 defeat to LAFC in their MLS season opener.

ESPN have since reported that MLS have launched an investigation into the incident, although the Professional Referees Organization (PRO) have given defence of Messi.

Chris Rivett, communications director, said: “After speaking with match officials, we can confirm that he did not enter the facilities.”

Decisions on potential punishments must be announced before the next matchday, which for Miami is Orlando on March 1st.
