There were some unusual scenes in Lens’ 3-0 win over Toulouse when Florian Thauvin went all out abusing Charlie Cresswell.
Lens made sure they stayed top of the Ligue 1 table ahead of PSG with thanks to a first-half red card for Toulouse.
Yet the game remained scoreless, particularly thanks to Englishman Cresswell who expertly got under the visitors’ skin.
However, when the deadlock was finally broken in the second half the Lens players went directly for Cresswell in heated scenes with Thauvin sticking his tongue out.
Explaining what happened post-match, Adrien Thomasson said: “Cresswell was taunting us for almost the entire first half.
“We agreed at halftime that after we scored our first goal, we should go and have a word with him, and Thauvin took care of that.
“He kind of sacrificed himself for us. I’m proud of him; he remained very calm despite the push and the taunting from the Toulouse player.
“That’s what experience is all about, knowing when to tease while staying calm.”
