Barcelona’s derby gloating continues to cause outrage in Spain, this time regarding Lamine Yamal.
Barca beat local rivals Espanyol in the derby at the weekend, dismissing them 4-1 to go nine points clear at the top of the league.
Barca’s players joined in with their fans’ chants post-match, showing a lack of class to their far-less resourced rivals.
The song went: “I swear that even as the years go by, we will never forget, we attacked Sarriá and then we kicked you out of our city, then you went down a division so you could be champion. We will pray for your disappearance.”
Espanyol respond to Barcelona songs
Speaking post-match, Espanyol’s Pol Lozano commented: “It doesn’t matter, it’s just part of football.
“Everyone saw the respect they have for their fellow professionals. I have nothing more to add.
“These things happen on a football pitch. They tried to taunt us a bit because they won, that’s all. When you lose, you have to accept it. It’s always the same, it doesn’t matter.”
Lamine takes things too far
The behaviour was roundly called out in the Spanish press, and then Lamine made matters worse.
Posting his celebrations on social media, he wrote: “Time to swallow, as usual.”
Spain and Valencia great Santi Canizares saw the post, and explained how it showed how the game has changed.
“Top-level players are generating more money than ever before… and they have more people around them than ever before,” the former goalkeeper said.
“These people used to be gentlemen who had more money than the footballers themselves; we all respected them because they educated the players.
“What happens today is that nobody dares to say anything to them because if they do, their business will be ruined and they’ll be out on the street.
“So don’t even think about whether someone should advise them, no, because now it’s about not bothering them.
“If a player says he’s going to commit a crime of this magnitude… the agent tells him, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll help you.’”
Co-host Paco González added: “When I saw him I thought of Iniesta and Puyol, who won everything and never needed to do that.
“It’s a total lack of class.”
If that wasn’t bad enough, Lamine even celebrated his 3-0 goal before it entered the net to further hammer home against Espanyol.
